RBD ACTIVISTS VANDALISE FILM SET IN KERALA

- DC CORRESPONDENT

Activists of Hindu right wing outfit Rashtriya Bajrang Dal (RBD) vandalised the set of Malayalam film “Minnal Murali” at Kalady in Ernakulam district of Kerala on grounds that it had been built in front of Mahadeva temple and hurt their religious sentiments.

Activists of RBD put up a post on Facebook claiming responsibility for the attack on Sunday evening. It also posted pictures of the vandalised set on social media.

The set belongs to a film in which young Malayalam super star Tovino Thomas is playing a role.

It has evoked widespread condemnation from various quarters. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condemned the incident and said those behind the act will not be spared. “No one will be permitted to use Kerala’s soil to spread communal hatred,” he told reporters here.

A special investigation team led by Aluva Rural SP M.J. Sojan has been constituted to probe the incident based on a complaint filed by Kalady Temple Shivaratri Festival Committee and a section of cine organisations.

The temple festival committee suspects that it is a deliberate move of vandals to create communal strife. It said producers of the film had been given permission to erect the set near the temple on condition that it would be demolished soon after the shooting schedule.
