Rly hosp wants to treat Covid-hit staff

South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager Gajanan Mallya has requested the Chief Secretary to allow the railway hospital at Lalaguda to treat railway staff stricken with Covid19.

The railways has not received a response so far.

If permission is given, the pressure on Covid-19 designated hospitals in the state could be reduced, the general manager said, according to the SCR PRO.

Union minister of state for home Kishan Reddy has made a similar request to the Chief Minister.

A senior official of SCR said, “When the state government is asking SCR to be ready with modified rail coaches to accommodat­e Covid-19 patients, why is it reluctant to allow railway employees to get treated at the railway hospital, which is more advanced than corporate hospitals.”

Sankara Rao, general secretary, SCR Mazdoor Union, Secunderab­ad, said, “The railway hospital at Lalaguda is well equipped with ICU and ventilator facilities. It has around 400 doctors and 400-500 beds.”
