TS’ YEAR-LONG NARASIMHA RAO CENTENARY GALA FROM JUNE 28
Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday announced that the state government will mark the birth centenary of former prime minister P. V. Narasimha Rao by organising year-long celebrations from June 28.
The CM was holding a meeting at Pragathi Bhavan on the celebrations with members of a committee constituted for the purpose. Recalling the services of the former prime minister, the Chief Minister announced that celebrations will commence at PV Gnana Bhoomi beside Hussainsagar in Hyderabad. The number of participants at the inaugural event will be limited in accordance with the Covid-19 guidelines.
Around the same time, celebrations will be held at 50 other locations worldwide. These will be coordinated by IT and industries minister K.T. Rama Rao. The CM sanctioned `10 crore for organising the celebrations.
He instructed officials to set up a memorial in Hyderabad for Narasimha Rao on lines of the one for former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in Rameswaram. He said a team under the leadership of TRS secretary-general Dr K. Keshav Rao will visit Rameswaram and suggest to the government how the memorial project should be implemented.
He asked the PV Centenary Celebrations Committee to set up five bronze statues of the former prime minister at Hyderabad, Warangal, Karimnagar, and Vangara, his native village, and also at Telangana Bhavan in Delhi. It has been decided that the Assembly will also have a portrait of Narasimha Rao.
Further, the state Cabinet as also said that the state legislature will pass a resolution demanding that the Centre confer the Bharat Ratna on Narasimha Rao posthumously.
