983 new Covid cases in state
Central team in city to assess situation
A high-powered Central government team that landed in the city on Sunday afternoon to assess the Telangana state government and GHMC’s efforts to contain the rapid rise in Covid-19 cases, was greeted with the news that the state recorded 983 cases for the day, in addition to four more deaths from the disease.
The Covid-19 tally on Sunday for the state stood at a total of 14,419 cases and the toll at 247 deaths. There were 9,000 active cases of the disease while 244 individuals were discharged, the health department said in its daily Covid-19 bulletin.
Earlier in the afternoon, a team of Central government officials, led by Luv Aggarwal, joint secretary in the Union ministry of health, landed in the city to comprehensively evaluate the efforts to stop the spread of the virus. While neither the team, the government nor the GHMC have said anything about the team’s plans, it is learnt that they will visit some of the severely affected areas in the city,
Gandhi Hospital and TIMS. They are also scheduled to have a series of meetings with officials on Monday. This is the third Central team to visit the state.
On Sunday, the health department said that of the 983 cases, 816 were from the GHMC area, with 47 reported from Ranga Reddy, 33 from Mancherial, 29 from
Medchal-Malkajgiri, 19 from Warangal Rural, 12 from Warangal Urban districts. The rest of the 39 cases were spread over Nalgonda, Sangareddy, Bhadadri-Kothagudem, Kari-mangar, Siddipet, Mahbubnagar, Adilabad, Khammam, Jangaon, Medak, Suryapet, JogulambaGadwal, and Nzamabad districts.
