KCR hails PV’s economic reforms

Chief Minister K. Chandrashe­kar Rao on Sunday said the reforms introduced by former prime minister P.V. Narasimha Rao with regard to land rights, education and economic policies have shaped the country’s future.

While addressing a select gathering at the PV Gyan Bhoomi on Necklace Road here on Sunday to commemorat­e the birth centenary of the former prime minister, Chandrashe­kar Rao said that the fruits of the economic reforms introduced by Narasimha Rao are being enjoyed by later generation­s.

Mr Rao said, “to undertake reforms in every field that he has been entrusted with, one requires conviction and knowledge. Whatever subject he was entrusted with he took bold decisions and introduced reforms.”

Announcing that the State Cabinet and Assembly will move a resolution demanding the Bharat Ratna for

Narasimha Rao, the Chief Minister said, “I personally will take a delegation to the Prime Minister and request him to honour P.V. Narasimha Rao by conferring on him the Bharat Ratna.” He agreed to the suggestion of requesting the Centre to rename the University of Hyderabad after Narasimha Rao.

Earlier, the Chief Minister offered floral tributes to the portrait of Narasimha Rao. Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, IT and industries minister K.T. Rama Rao, PV Narasimha Rao birth centenary celebratio­ns committee chairman K. Keshava Rao, TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, CPI secretary Chada Venkat Reddy and family members of the former prime minister were present.
