Teachers wary over college re-opening
There is a sense of uneasiness among teachers and students ever since the Chief Minister’s announcement about the commencement of the academic year for engineering colleges next month and an impending decision on reopening of schools.
Most teachers of various colleges have complained that the safety measures in their institutions were way below the required standards.
Worried over the health hazard, the Telangana State Government Colleges Contract Lecturers’ Association has written to the state government and Board of Intermediate Education suggesting ways to effectively and safely begin the academic year.
The suggestions include preparation of an action plan with which to estimate the future impact of Covid-19 and preparing faculty and students accordingly.
The representation has urged accommodation of students and teachers in online mode of examination and valuation. They have also sought separate syllabus weightage for online and for physical classes in colleges.
To make it convenient for both teachers and students, they wanted subject-wise groups on WhatsApp or Telegram with a mentor for technical assistance on Covid-19.
They have also demanded appointment of a government health worker at colleges, besides supply of medicines and infrastructure support.
In addition to better drinking water facilities and hygienic conditions, the Association wanted students to be provided bicycles in order to avoid public transport and ensure social distancing.
