Sravana masam to see fewer weddings
The auspicious month of Sravana masam, which started on Tuesday, will witness 70 per cent fewer weddings because of the Coronavirus pandemic and restriction on the number of guests. The Varalakshmi puja will also witness very few invitees, while the inauguration of new business establishments has been postponed.
Many weddings have been put off because everyone wants the event to be a grand affair. With the government restricting the number of guests to just 50, people have chosen to postpone them to another day. NRIs, who planned their marriages in India, have also cancelled them because of impediments in international travel.
According to P. Vanaja Rao, marriage consultant, many weddings have been postponed. Otherwise, the month of Sravanam witnesses hundreds of weddings each day.
A wedding had been planned on the 24th of this month with 3,000 people at a big function hall. As the same could not be postponed, it will now take place at a farmhouse in the presence of just 50 guests.
Another wedding also will likewise take place at a farmhouse on July 26. Only the two families will be present with the guest list pruned to just 30. On August 5, a grand wedding was planned. It has been reduced to registered marriage.
Naresh Reddy of Green Mango Media says most of the weddings and other events have turned either low-key or have been cancelled altogether.
Aparna Addala, a government employee, said, “Guests for Varalakshim Vratham, which will be on the second Friday of Sravanam, will be fewer, because of the pandemic situation and the fear of the Coronavirus spreading.” a
