RACHAKONDA COPS START ANTI-HUMAN TRAFFICKING UNIT
Rachakonda police on Thursday established an AntiHuman Trafficking Unit (AHTU) at the commissionerate to exclusively deal with trafficking of women and children for flesh trade. Ever since the commissionerate was formed in 2016, its police have rescued 556 victims and arrested
557 traffickers, including women.
Telangana additional director general of police (Law and Order) Jitender inaugurated the AHTU at LB Nagar. “It is most befitting that functioning of AHTU starts on the World Day against Trafficking in Persons,” he remarked.
The additional DGP said problem of human trafficking is confined not just to India but is spread across the world. He asked public to inform police whenever they observe a trafficking incident.
Since the inception of Rachakonda commissionerate in
2016, as many as 290 cases of human trafficking have been registered. 446 majors and
101 minors have been rescued, while 258 male and 299 female traffickers have been arrested. As many as 50 of the traffickers have been booked under the Preventive Detention Act and 144 premises used as brothels have been seized by revenue authorities.
