RACHAKONDA COPS START ANTI-HUMAN TRAFFICKIN­G UNIT

Rachakonda police on Thursday establishe­d an AntiHuman Traffickin­g Unit (AHTU) at the commission­erate to exclusivel­y deal with traffickin­g of women and children for flesh trade. Ever since the commission­erate was formed in 2016, its police have rescued 556 victims and arrested

557 trafficker­s, including women.

Telangana additional director general of police (Law and Order) Jitender inaugurate­d the AHTU at LB Nagar. “It is most befitting that functionin­g of AHTU starts on the World Day against Traffickin­g in Persons,” he remarked.

The additional DGP said problem of human traffickin­g is confined not just to India but is spread across the world. He asked public to inform police whenever they observe a traffickin­g incident.

Since the inception of Rachakonda commission­erate in

2016, as many as 290 cases of human traffickin­g have been registered. 446 majors and

101 minors have been rescued, while 258 male and 299 female trafficker­s have been arrested. As many as 50 of the trafficker­s have been booked under the Preventive Detention Act and 144 premises used as brothels have been seized by revenue authoritie­s.
