Incessant rain enveloped the city on Thursday resulting in the day turning colder with the day temperature slipping down by 6º Celsius. The maximum temperature was 23.8ºC, way below normal for this time of the year.

On Thursday, several parts of the city recorded light rain with Khairatabad recording 28 mm till 8 pm, followed by Asifnagar (27.5 mm), Golconda (25.8 mm) and Red Hills playground (25.8 mm), according to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS).

“Since the entire state is under the influence of a low-pressure zone, there was rainfall activity. This weather will continue for the next 24 hours (Friday). Due to the persistent drizzle, there was heavy clouding over the city’s sky. This did not allow the sunlight to break through, so there was very little heat that got through,” Dr K. Nagaratna, director of the Indian Meteorological Department-Hyderabad (IMD), told Deccan Chronicle.

Following the day-long clouding and rain, officials of the local IMD office warned of bouts of heavy rainfall at isolated places over Telangana state till Monday.

The IMD said: ‘Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning likely to occur at isolated places over Telangana. Heavy to very heavy rain very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts Adilabad, Nirmal, Kumaram Bheem, Mancherial, Nizamabad, Jangammet, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Jayashankar-Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Pedapalli, Warangal (Urban and Rural), Mahbubabad, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda and Suryapet districts.”

In the capital city, too there was a possibility of light to moderate rain or thundershowers on Friday, she said.

“August is supposed to be the rainiest month in Hyderabad. It usually receives close to 207 mm of rainfall in this month. Till date, it has received close to 80 mm of rainfall, said G.P. Sharma, a meteorologist from Skymet, a private weather forecasting outfit.
