KTR asks Centre for rly coach factory in TS

Industries minister K.T. Rama Rao on Thursday requested the Centre to keep its word to Telangana state and set up a railway coach factory in the public sector at Kazipet. He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the Medha Rail Coach Factory at Kondakal village in Ranga Reddy district.

He stated that the Centre had promised to set up the coach factory under the AP bifurcatio­n Act. “Telangana is a new and progressiv­e state and the Centre must assist this growth-oriented state by setting up the coach factory in the public sector,” Rama Rao said.

The minister said that the government’s proactive approach and conducive policies had encouraged the Medha Group to establish its world-class rail coach factory in the state.

Pointing out that the Medha Servo Drives Pvt Ltd, founded by Y. Yughandhar Reddy, a local, the minister said “I am appreciati­ng Yugandhar Reddy for coming forward to set up the `1,000 crore factory.”

He said that Medha is India’s largest private-sector rail coach factory, which is expected to create an ecosystem for rail coach manufactur­ing in the state. He said the state had units that manufactur­e buses, tractors, parts of aircraft, and helicopter­s. “With Medha setting up their rail coach factory, we can proudly say that Telangana state also houses a factory which manufactur­es train coaches,” Rama Rao said.

The minister said it was expected that the Medha Rail Coach Factory will provide direct employment to 1,000 persons and indirectly employ 1500 more. The annual capacity of the factory would be 500 coaches and 50 locomotive­s.

Ministers T. Harish Rao and Sabitha Indra Reddy and Medha Group MD Kashyap Reddy were present at the programme.
