Highway falls
Trucks and motorists struggle to across the National Highway (NH 163) in Warangal district as the Katakshapur lake overflows due to incessant rains over the past four days.
Incessant rains over the last two days have inundated many fields and residential colonies in Khammam and Bhadradri-Kothagudem districts. Paddy, cotton and green gram crops were submerged in 1,500 acres in both districts.
About 40 rivulets and tanks are overflowing in 26 mandals in the two districts, including the Munner, a rivulet of the Krishna, is running full. The Nagarjunasagar Left Bank Canal is full after the release of water from the Palair reservoir.
Housing colonies in Khammam and Kothagudem towns were inundated by rainwater including at Raparthinagar, Edulapuram, Dwansalapuram, Sarathinagar and Pumping Well Road in Khammam. Rainwater entered 15 houses in Raparthinagar.
In Khammam district, Karepalli mandal witnessed 12.1 cm rainfall followed by Kamepalli (10.4 cm), Enkoor (8.2 cm), Penuballi (7.2 cm), Rahgunathapalem (6 cm), Kallur (5.7 cm), Khammam Rural (5.6 cm) and Khammam Urban (5.4 cm) mandals. More than 5 cm rainfall was recorded in Konigerla, Vemsoor, Tallada and Sattupalli mandals.
Pedavagu rivulet and Pinjaramadugu tank in Kamepalli mandal were overflowing and the floodwater submerged 100 acres of paddy. Paddy nurseries raised by the farmers washed away in some places.
In Bhadradri district, fourteen streams like Ellannavagu, Nurreduvagu, Pottivagu, Mallannavagu, Edumelikalavagu, Jalleru, Kodelavagu and Budidavagu in Gundala and Allapalli mandals were in spate and all the vater is joining the Kinnerasani.
Road connectivity was cut off to 40 habitations in these two mandals. About 17,000 cusecs of water were released from the Kinnerasani reservoir.
The Singabhupalam tank in Sujathanagar mandal was overflowing. Floodwater from Isukavagu and Lothuvagu cut off 16 habitations in Aswapuram mandal. Work in the Sitarama lift irrigation project were affected by the rains. Rainwater reached the pump house at BG Kothuru.
In Paloncha mandal, the Murreduvagu is overflowing and the floodwater entered 300 acres of paddy. It is expected that more damage will be recorded in the mandals of Kamapalli, Karepalli, Gundala, Allapalli, Aswapuram, Paloncha and Enkoor if the rains continue another day.
