Tharoor demands Ratna for PV
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor demanded that former prime minister P.V. Narasimha Rao be conferred with the Bharat Ratna.
Participating in a webinar, ‘Indian Foreign Policy and PV Narasimha Rao’, under the auspices of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) as part of the centenary celebrations of Narasimha Rao, Tharoor said there was a fundamental shift and uplift of India’s fortunes, thanks to the dexterity with which he implemented revolutionary policies during his tenure. Tharoor stated that under Rao’s leadership, India had managed global alliances while considering the impact of various domestic factors such as separatist movements as well as economic reforms on the foreign policy.
“A reformist at heart and one of the towering South Indians in Indian political history,
Narasimha Rao embodied various qualities that truly made the country proud. His grasp of languages, skillful management of alliances and courage to introduce bold economic reforms with the then finance minister Dr Manmohan Singh fundamentally changed India,” he said.
He said that the humble and but persuasive approach while managing affairs of the state throughout his long and distinguished career at various levels of government warrant the hallowed Bharat Ratna to be awarded to him posthumously. TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the country transformed into a powerful nation during the tenure of Narasimha Rao.
State party affairs incharge Dr R.C. Khuntia, AICC secretaries Bosu Raju, Srinivas Krishnan, Celebration Committee chairperson Geetha Reddy, vice chairman D. Sridhar Babu and senior leaders V. Hanumantha Rao and others participated in the programme.
