TRS CORPORATOR HITS WOMAN, HIDES IN SCHOOL

- RAVINDRA SESHU | DC

Tension prevailed in Kaikondaigudem in the first division of Khammam Municipal Corporation on Tuesday after locals rounded on TRS corporator Ramoorthy Naik who had physically abused a woman.

Enraged locals tried to thrash the corporator at one stage and he ran away into a nearby school to escape the mob, where he locked himself in.

The locals went after him and demanded that he come out.

The incident took place when Naik went to the village as part of Badi Bata, a programme to get encourage children to jon school.

The incident was the fallout of the death of one Anand Tejawat, a worker from Kaikondaigudem, at Vamsikrishna Function Hall owned by Naik on August 18 while working there. Naik promised to pay some amount to his family and failed to do so. Tejawat’s mother Vijaya approached Naik on Tuesday to ask him about the compensation. She said, “The corporator kicked me in the chest and I fell on my daughter. Both of us sustained injuries.”

Locals and Vijaya’s relatives rushed to the spot. Heated arguments followed between Naik and the locals. The locals questioned Naik on his hitting a woman. At one stage, the mob irked by the words used by Naik surrounded him.

The police rushed to the spot and rescued Naik and another person from the spot. The enraged mob burnt Naik’s car. Vijaya lodged a complaint against Naik in the police station.

Naik convened a press meet and alleged that some TRS leaders were trying to malign his image. He had no connection with the death of Anand Tejawat who fell unconscious while working. “I tried to save his life by placing iron keys in his hand. I am being framed,” said Naik, conveniently skirting the issue of his being violent with a woman.
