POWERFUL NAGALAND GB FEDERATION WRITES TO PM

- MANOJ ANAND | DC

A massive polarisation has started in Nagaland where almost all the tribal bodies in tune with sentiments of civil society have started mounting pressure for an early Naga peace accord - either with or without NSCN (I-M).

This was more visible on Tuesday when one of the most powerful, the Nagaland GB (Gaon Burahs) Federation wrote a hard-hitting letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi pleading for a political solution for Nagaland at earliest.

The letter of Nagaland GB Federation has come close on the heels of a mega political initiative of opposition Nagaland Peoples Front (NPF) led by former chief minister T.R. Zeliang who had a consultative meeting with NSCN (I-M) led by its chairman Q. Tuccu on Monday and urged NSCN (I-M) to be more accommodative with other Naga political groups, while assuring the NSCN (I-M) of continuing to play the role of an active facilitator in the ongoing political dialogue for reaching a final settlement on the Naga political issues.

The NPF which has formed Political Affairs Mission (PAM) to act as facilitator in Naga peace talks has not only raised serious question over the role of Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio, known for his proximity with NSCN (I-M) leader Th Muivah but the opposition has also decided to rope in the working committee of Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) for consultation to conclude the Naga peace-process at the earliest.

The Nagaland GB federation which is considered as to be the custodians of the Naga customary laws, traditions and practices in its letter to Prime Minister said, “The solution of Naga political issue has to incorporate the aspirations of the people rather than the dictated lines of leadership or their ulterior motive for a dictatorial reign.”
