Macca Masjid to open tomorrow
Prayers in the historic Mecca Masjid and Shahi Masjid at Public Garden will resume from Saturday, They had remained closed for the general public due to Coronavirus pandemic. This decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Home Minister, Mahmood Ali, with public representatives and officials of Minority Welfare Department here on Wednesday.
Officials informed that construction work is underway at Mecca Masjid, which will be completed soon. It was decided to allow 50 worshippers in two mosques in tune with norms framed by the Centre.
The Home Minister appealed to people to maintain social distance by using masks during prayers. He said that according to the rules issued by the Union Government, those below the age of
10 and above the age of
65 are prohibited from offering prayers in the two mosques. He said that the spread of the virus could be prevented only through precautionary measures and people should abide by the Covid protocol.
MLAs Mumtaz Ahmed Khan and Ahmed Pasha Qadri, adviser to the government on Minority Welfare AK Khan, Secretary Minorities Welfare Ahmed Nadeem, Director Minorities Welfare Shah Nawaz Qasim, District Minority Welfare Officer and CEO Wakf Board Mohammad Khasim and others participated in the high-level meeting.
