TTD wants CAG to audit accounts
In an extraordinary move, the trust board of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has decided to request the state government to entrust the audit of its accounts to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG) from 2020-21 onwards.
This was disclosed by BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy in a tweet on Wednesday. He posted the resolution copy along with his tweet.
The trust board, which had met on August 28 under the chairmanship of Y.V. Subba Reddy, passed a resolution to this effect. Since the audit report from 2014-15 to 2019-20 has already been completed by the state audit department, the board also asked the government to request CAG to take up a special audit of the same period and furnish its report within six months.
The move comes at a time when a petition filed by Swamy, seeking liberation of T i r um a l a , Tiruchanoor and 11 other temples from government control, is pending in the AP High Court. The PIL also seeks a direction to the state to place the audit report for the past five years before CAG. The TTD in its resolution also stated that the board had reviewed the accounting and audit systems.
