With Maha inflows into SRSP, water released

- NARENDER PULLOOR | DC

With continuous inflows from upstream River Godavari in Maharashtra, the Sriramsagar Project (SRSP) has started releasing water into the Flood Flow Canal (FFC) from Thursday. Project officials released 12,857 cusecs of water. SRSP currently has 1090.3 feet of water against its full reservoir level of

1091.00 ft.

The gross storage capacity of the project is

90.313 tmc ft. With present level reaching 86.46 tmc ft and inflows continuing, officials released water through FFC into mid-Manair reservoir in Karimnagar district. It has been decided to maintain SRSP storage at 85.00 tmc ft while releasing water through various canals.

Officials have also released 6,000 cusecs of water each into Kakatiya and Sarasvathi canals, 300 cusecs into Laxmi canal,

540 cusecs for Alisagar lift irrigation scheme,

405 cusecs Gutpa LI scheme, and 152 cusecs to Mission Bhagiratha scheme.

Evaporation losses account for 627 cusecs. Inflows into the project are currently 26,732 cusecs while outflows are 19,154 cusecs.

SRSP superintendent engineer Sushil Deshpande has alerted district administration of Nizamabad, Jagtial and Karimnagar districts about the release of water into flood flow canal. Fishermen, farmers and others have been advised to be cautious, as outflows into the flood flow canal will be increased gradually.

The Gaikwad Major Irrigation Project across River Godavari in Maharashtra has reached full reservoir level and is releasing water downstream. Similarly, projects in Parbhani and Nanded districts too are releasing water into the river, which have enabled outflows from SRSP.

THE GROSS storage capacity of the project is 90.313 tmc ft. With present level reaching 86.46 tmc ft and inflows continuing, officials released water through FFC into mid-Manair reservoir in Karimnagar district.
