UP TO 130 CASES ARE MISSED FOR EVERY +VE TEST

- KANIZA GARARI I DC

Forty per cent of the Indian population is already exposed to the SARS-Cov

2 virus but there are 80 to 130 missed cases for every confirmed case of

Covid-19 in India. In contrast, the daily count places the caseload at

46,53,455 on Friday. These missing cases are a mixture of asymptomatic, mild, severe and deaths. The US is estimated to have 10 missed cases for every one confirmed case.

The missed cases have been evaluated by the Indian Council of Medical Research in its sero survey findings from May-June. Missed cases are also due to the fact that only those who had symptoms of severe and acute respiratory infection were tested.

There was also a large variation in testing methodology across the states. Tests were carried out only for those who showed symptoms and their contacts but community testing was not carried out which would give the exact idea of the spread.

The state recorded

2,426 new Covid-19 cases and 13 deaths on Thursday, according to the state bulletin released on Friday. The toll stands at 940 and the total number of positive cases at 1,52,602.

Of the positive cases, 1,05,295 are asymptomatic and

47,307 are symptomatic. The state has tested 20,16,461 samples till Thursday evening.

The high risk group is in the 21-50 years age group, as the infection rate among them is found to be high.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area recorded 338 cases followed by Karimnagar with 129, Medchal-Malkajgiri 172 and Warangal Urban 108 cases. Social distancing and masks are recommended to people and that they must report early to hospitals in case of symptoms.
