KTR: 18 strategic road projects in city completed
THE MINISTER also said that the civic body had saved about ` 568 crore by implementing the transfer of development rights (TDR) scheme for the first time in the country. TDRs had helped speed up the acquisition of land for roadwidening.
K.T. Rama Rao, municipal administration and urban development minister, on Friday said that work to the tune of `6,000 crore had been completed under the Strategic Road Development Project (SRDP) in the city. Responding to questions related to the SRDP in the Assembly, Rama Rao said the size of the SRDP was about `30,000 crore. About 18 project works were completed and were being used by the people.
Since the GHMC is spread across four districts — Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Sangareddy, and Medchal Malkajgiri, administered by the respective collectors — the minister said, “For better coordination on land acquisition, the government has introduced a reform wherein the GHMC commissioner is designated as the special collector for land acquisition.” Rama Rao said that the government is promoting public transport in the city to resolve the traffic gridlock.
Responding to a question by MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, Rama Rao said that SRDP works are underway in the Old City too.
He said `713 crore was spent on road widening in the Old City.
Of this, `477 crore was allocated for general roads, `228 crore for SRDP, and `8 crore to develop link roads. Rama Rao also said that the GHMC had saved about `568 crore by implementing the transfer of development rights (TDR) scheme for the first time in the country.
TDRs had helped speed up the acquisition of land for road-widening.
