TRS corporator assaults girl over parking issue

Nagender Yadav threatens her using his official position

- DC CORRESPONDENT

When requested to remove his wrongly parked car on the road blocking access to her home, TRS corporator Ragam Nagender Yadav, in a fit of rage, assaulted 20year-old girl Ananya Kurikala. The incident occurred a few days ago but came to light on Monday when the frightened family, after being coerced into “compromise” on the matter, registered a complaint with Chandanagar police station.

A Bachelor of Fine Arts student in photography from Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU), Ananya reached home in her Renault Duster (TS-07 EH 6598), but found the corporator’s car, a Toyota Fortuner (TS-07 GK 99) blocking the way to her house, Villa No. 18, Lakshmi Vihar Phase-2, Nallagandla, Lingampalli.

Nagender Yadav, corporator in GHMC representing the ruling TRS party, refused to entertain her request. Instead, he advised Ananya to park her car somewhere and take the car home the next day, saying, “Am I a driver? My driver will come tomorrow. You park here and walk home.”

What happened next, in which Ananya’s firm politeness and Nagender Yadav’s arrogance can be witnessed, are clearly captured on the video that Ananya recorded of the entire incident on her phone as a precautionary measure. Nagender Yadav tried to intimidate and

threaten her, reminding her not to forget who he was and what his position is. After a while when neighbours intervened and requested, the corporator’s son arrived and removed the car.

However, after 15 minutes, the angry corporator, attired in vest and shorts, returned and started making a scene. He put his VIP car siren on and argued that Ananya must remove her car as an ambulance is on the way to Villa No. 17 in which relatives of the corporate live. While the siren continued blaring, the scofflaw threatened the girl of teaching her a lesson. The corporator got enraged and hit the girl when Ananya objected to his words while filming the whole scenario. The frightened girl took time to collect her wits and called ‘SHE patrol’ team, which responded immediately to the call and arrived at the scene.

Seeing the police arrive, the corporator went off into his home for the night. The next day, the “society” advised the family to “arrive at a compromise” and “not make a big deal of it”.

Shailaja Karanam, education consultant and a relative of the assaulted girl, said, “We are shocked to see a ruling TRS party leader showcasing such arrogance and violence against women. Even more shocking is how other residents are trying to pressurise us saying if we make an issue of it, the corporator could stop works on roads or water supply or even removal of garbage. Would they have sought a compromise if their own daughter or sister was attacked?”

When Deccan Chronicle contacted him, corporator Nagender Yadav said, “I am a landlord who owns a villa, while they are tenants. I never tried to hit

her… I was only trying to remove the mobile in her hand with which she was filming me. If she got hit accidentally, it was not my intent. I respect good women. But these girls smoke, drink and party late at night with several boys.”

The corporator defended his action saying ever since he had objected to their “obscene loud parties”, the two sisters had begun a conspiracy “with the help of the BJP to defame his spotless character and destroy his political career of over 30 years.”

“I will also register cases against her... a big deal,” said Nagender Yadav.

Subsequently, Ananya took to social media highlighting her plight even as several “fans of Nagender anna” started trolling her. One of them wrote, “Anna hit you with one hand. I will hit with both. You look like a **tch.”
