While paying condolences to the families of 7 engineers and staff of TS Genco and two employees of a private firm during the short discussion on the power sector and fire mishap, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao said, “It is painful that we have lost 9 people in the mishap. We appreciate their courage to protect the Nation’s wealth without caring about their lives till their last breath. People will not forget their sacrifice.”
Offering his condolences to the families of the deceased, the chief minister said that the state government will extend the necessary support to the family members of the deceased.
Congress legislature party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, MIM MLA Ahmad Pasha Quadri also paid their condolences to the families of the victims.
Vikramarka asked the government to constitute a high-level committee with experts to study the reasons for the accident and suggest measures to prevent such mishaps in the Power House in the future.
Earlier, initiating the discussion power sector, G. Jagadish Reddy, Energy Minister said that Telangana will soon emerge as the top power producing State in the country with installed electricity generation capacity expected to touch
27,603 MW.
He told the House the installed capacity of Telangana was a mere
7,700 MW at the time of
State formation in 2014 and within six years of State formation, Telangana had proved that it not only had enough power to provide round the clock, free and quality power to its farmers.
He said that Telangana also augmented its power generation capacity contrary to what naysayers had to say at the time of bifurcation of the State.
He pointed out that “there were power holidays during the days before bifurcation. Industrialists organised dharnas demanding regular supply of power reflecting the pathetic situation. Farmers had only 2 hours of supply that too at nights, and low voltage plagued the agriculture sector. There were crop failures leading to suicides.” He claimed that per capita consumption of the state has reached 1306 units.
