Angry over vilification of the film industry over the ongoing probe into actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case and alleged link to the drug cartel, actor-politician Jaya Bachchan on Tuesday hit out at fellow-actor and Gorakhpur MP Ravi Kisan and Kangana Ranaut for their act of “Jis thaali me khaate hain usi me chhed karte hain (Bite the hand that feeds you).”

Referring to the Narcotics Control Bureau’s investigation into the late actor’s death, Kisan on Monday alleged in the Lok Sabha that drug addiction prevailed in the film industry and the Union government had to take strict action against those involved and curb the menace.

Jaya Bachchan did not name anyone in her Zero Hour mention in the Rajya Sabha and asked the government to stand by the entertainment industry because it “always comes forward to help the government.”

industry and called it a gutter, apparently referring to Ranaut’s recent remarks.

Outside Parliament, Kisan said he expected Bachchan to support what he had said as not everyone in the industry consumes drugs but those who do are part of a plan to finish the world's largest film industry.

Later, the House saw TMC member Shantanu Sen, through a Special Mention, urging that instead of ‘social distancing’ as one of the guidelines against Covid-19, usage of ‘physical distancing’ or any other term as the existing words were promoting social stigma of Coronavirus patients and their families.

Agreeing to the suggestion, Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu said an appropriate term should be used and suggested “safe distancing.”
