Kavitha as MLC poll nominee perks up TRS

- DC CORRESPONDENT

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti is trying hard to regain its footing in the erstwhile Nizamabad district. The candidature of former MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha for the MLC local body polls has changed political dynamics in the district. The local TRS leadership has swung back into action on the ground. The party is also all set to welcome leaders from Opposition parties.

Though the victory of Kavitha is imminent in the MLC polls with the TRS having the backing of 505 of 824 voters from various local bodi e s in erstwhile Nizamabad district, party leaders are aiming to win the seat for her with an even bigger majority.

Among the remaining elected representatives,

140 are from the Congress, 84 from BJP,

28 from the MIM, a TRS ally, and another 66 are independents.

Since the day MLC elections were announced, over 100 mandal and zilla parishad members and corporators belonging to Opposition parties in the district have joined the TRS in the presence of minister Prashant Reddy. With this, the strength of TRS among MLC voters has crossed

600.

Polling for MLC elections is scheduled on October 9. Counting of votes will be on October 12.

Ruling party cadres are asserting that Kavitha is sure to win with over two-thirds of majority in the MLC election. They feel her active presence in district politics thereafter will change political equations in the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency. Party leaders are pointing out that even prior to her tenure as MP from Nizamabad, Kavitha had established herself well among the cadres in Nizamabad. She also has a strong support from women in the district.

TRS cadres feel her growing social media presence and work carried out during the

Covid-19 pandemic will help her regain foothold in the district.
