Pushkaralu visitors prefer Alampur in TS

Third day of the mega event witnessed a good number of devotees

Visitors to the Tungabhadr­a pushkaralu are heading to Alampur in Jogulamba Gadwal district of Telangana state for baths as the Kurnool ghats allow only sprinkle baths. The third day of the event drew a good number of visitors but they left for Alampur, which is also a Shakti Peetham.

Many pilgrims criticised the government for spending `230 crore in Kurnool but that had little practical value.

An official release said on Sunday that 11,351 persons were at the ghats in the district. The cumulative number of visitors in the past three days stands at 32,695. the Sankal Bagh ghat in Kurnool, the main Pushkaram ghat, attracted

5,604 visitors on Sunday. This is said to be low on a holiday. The ghat over the three days saw 11,012 visitors take shower baths after they tested negative for Covid-19.

Mokila Subramanya­m, a visitor from Chirala, said the water in the river was stagnant. The shower water seems to be entering in the stream, he said.

Alampur town, which is situated on the other side of the Tungabhadr­a, has become an attractive spot for Pushkaram visitors. The Telangana state government has released just

able four pushkar ghats on its side of the river. Since a holy dip is permitted for Coronaviru­s negative people, visitors are thronging there, said a visitor from Macherla.

Mantralaya­m and Sangameshw­aram pushkar ghats too saw good numbers of visitors. Some people ventured to take a dip near Panchaling­ala but police chased them away, said another visitor.
