ONE HELD FOR FLOATING FAKE AIRPORT PORTAL

A three-member team of IGI Airport police station, New Delhi, on Saturday arrested a youth from his in-laws house at Naraharipu­r village in Odisha’s Bhadrak district for allegedly committing a cyber fraud amounting to `1 crore.

The accused, identified as Rajendra Malick of Bairi village in Jajpur district, was held while hiding at his inlaws house to avoid police action.

According to the police reports, Malick runs a travel agency through which he used to “make” online train and flight tickets using fake identity documents. He also used to dupe people of thousands of rupees on the pretext of getting them a job at IGI Delhi Airport.

Malick who lives in Bhubaneswa­r floated a website faking the official website of IGI Airport. In the website, he advertised for various posts and asked job aspirants to deposit `1,000 registrati­on fee. Thousands of youths fell victim to Malick’s design and deposited the money.

“The accused has looted people of over `1 crore by promising them jobs at IGI Airport. Besides, he has cheated people in many other way. We are probing all cases,” IGI Airport police station inspector Vijaya Kumar who led the three-member team said.

A complaint was lodged against Rajendra on December 2 by a resident of Delhi. Based on the complaint, the Delhi police booked a case under Section 420, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code team reached Bhadrak and arrested him on Saturday morning.

“Based on the complaint, we launched the investigat­ion and successful­ly reached the accused. We are interrogat­ing the accused to know further details about the cheating and fraud perpetrate­d by him,” the police said.

Soon after his arrest, the accused was produced in the local Dhamnagar Court which remanded him in the transit remand of Delhi police.
