AMU VC advocates wiser usage of SM
Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) vice chancellor Prof. Tariq Mansoor on Saturday advocated wiser use of social media and staying clear of divisive politics, sectarianism and petty squabbling.
Addressing online the 23rd Foundation Day celebrations of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), he told students that while the world is full of opportunities, it also has its temptations. He advised students to aim higher while seeking appropriate guidance for their educational and personal growth. “You carry the hope of not only your family and community, but also the nation at large. Success is an outcome of diligence, confidence and patient perseverance,” he observed.
Prof. Tariq pointed out that Urdu is an Indo-Aryan language and one among the 23 national languages of India. It is spoken by more than 170 million people today. Most linguists agree that Urdu is an amalgamation of Persian, Arabic, Khadi Boli, Brij Bhasha and other indigenous Indian languages. Both Punjab and Deccan have played an important role in development and evolution of this multicultural language.
“Today, as Indians, both Hindus and Muslims must nurture and promote Urdu, just like parents nurture their children,” he remarked.
MANUU vice chancellor Prof. S. M. Rahmatullah said all languages meet the needs of human beings. Whichever language gets patronage of the government, it flourishes. He pointed out that though Urdu has gained the status of an official language, it has been on the decline due to various reasons.
Praising the New Education Policy (NEP), Prof. Rahmatullah pointed out that it has emphasised on education being in the mother tongue. MANUU has been organising various webinars to understand and effectively implement the (NEP), he stated.
