KISAN CONGRESS SAYS, SCRAP AGRICULTURE LAWS

- DC CORRESPONDENT

The Kisan Congress on Sunday demanded that the Centre must rescind the new agricultural laws and the state government must call on the Assembly to pass the unanimous resolution against the legislation.

The demand was made at a round table meeting at Gandhi Bhavan with several leaders of Congress and farmers unions in attendance.

Kisan Congress vice-president Kodanda Reddy appealed to the farmers and people to protest against new laws which were passed by the central government and said the laws were very harmful to Agriculture.

Farmers union leaders Donthi Madava Reddy and Kanneganti Ravi said that international pressure was behind the laws which favoured the corporate sector and not the farmer.

They pointed out that sugarcane farmers were facing issues because corporates ruled the sector. If the new laws are implemented, consumers will find the prices of foodgrains rising.

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka alleged that the BJP was a “business party” and accused it of colluded with corporates.

It was alleged that the new laws were part of a conspiracy to hand over agriculture to corporate entities.

The CLP lamented that it was done in violation of the federal spirit between the Centre and the states. He criticised Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao for going to Delhi and supporting the Modi government, while he had earlier spoken of forming the Federal Front.

FARMERS UNION leaders Donthi Madava Reddy and Kanneganti Ravi said that international pressure was behind the laws which favoured the corporate sector and not the farmer.
