State reports 2,127 cases of abduction in 2019: NCRB

A two-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped by unidentifi­ed men from Moosaramba­gh of Malakpet on Thursday. Police received the complaint from the girl’s father Sudugu Ajay, 27. Police said the family went to sleep on the footpath near a bank at Moosaramba­gh on Wednesday night. The girl was found missing the next day, said the police, who booked a kidnap case and started a probe.

According to data, 672 kidnapped children were in the age group of 16 to 18 years. Around 459 abducted people were untraceabl­e till December 31, 2019, including 357 girls.

A total of 519 persons were kidnapped in Hyderabad last year. Across India, 98,888 kidnapping and abduction cases have been reported in 2019, which works out 271 per day. Of the total abducted persons, 80,856 are girls.
