Security up along other parts of Indo-China border

- DC CORRESPONDENT NEW DELHI, FEB 15

Even as Indian and Chinese forces have started the disengagement process in the Ladakh sector, Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), which is the Indo-China border guarding force, is clearly not taking any chances.

It has further increased its deployment along other parts of Indo-China border like North-East, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh to ensure that the Chinese Peoples’ Liberation Army (PLA) “does not open a new front and confrontation zone” in these areas.

Home Ministry sources said that the ITBP has taken timely action by enhancing deployment along the Indo-China border so that the Chinese security personnel do not try any transgression exercise in other sectors.

“We had some information that in an attempt to deflect attention from the ongoing disengagement process in Ladakh, Chinese PLA could create problem in some other areas along the border. So we have deployed additional ITBP troops in Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, higher and remote areas of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Our security forces are alert and we will not let PLA create any further mischief,” a senior Home

Ministry official remarked.

Both Indian and Chinese security forces agreed on a withdrawal formula in the Ladakh region following prolonged negotiation lasting several months. But Indian security forces remain on “very high alert” all along IndoChina border.

Sources said that all sector commanders of the ITBP are taking daily reports from even advance and remote check posts on Chinese activity in their respective zones. These daily reports are then compiled and a detailed analysis is being sent to the Home Ministry.
