The rise in fuel prices has triggered a flurry of memes, as people see laughter as the best coping mechanism

Captain Tanmay Agarwal proved his batting prowess once again as he smashed a swashbuckling century in Hyderabad’s seven-wicket victory over Chhatisgarh in the second round of Vijay Hazare Trophy being played in Surat, Gujarat.

Tanmay followed up his first match score of 86 with 122 on Monday as he stroked 17 boundaries in his 116-ball knock. Tanmay has been knocking on the doors of IPL teams but has been overlooked of late.

Thakur Tilak Varma (60) played second fiddle while Tanmay’s cousin Himalay contributed 49 as Hyderabad cantered to victory with almost 10 overs to spare. Electing to bat, Chhattisgarh could only muster 242 in their stipulated 50 overs. Mehdi Hasan (3/2) was the pick of the Hyderabad bowlers.

ANDHRA UPSET TN

Meanwhile in Indore, Ashwin Hebbar slammed an unbeaten 101 and powered Andhra to a sevenwicket win over Tamil Nadu. Andhra bowlers did very well to dismiss TN for 176 in 41.3 overs.

Hebbar was in cracking form and toyed with the opposition to attack to fashion a comfortable win.

Left-arm medium-pacer C. Stephen (3/46), off-spinner Shoaib Mohammed Khan (3/24) and right-arm medium-pacer Girinath Reddy (2/33) struck at regular intervals to restrict a

strong Tamil Nadu batting line-up, led by Dinesh Karthik. Girinath Reddy struck an early blow by dismissing left-handed opener C Hari Naishaanth (4). The other opener N Jagadeesan (11), who scored a ton in the opening match, was bowled by Girinath to leave the team at 23 for 2.

Tamil Nadu, winner of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy recently, never really recovered from the early setbacks.

THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM

Tthese tough times, already burdened by job losses and shrinking pay packets, people are left with only two options — rant or laugh. Many have chosen the latter. Here are some memes that are doing the rounds on the Internet and have managed to keep netizens entertained.

he present fuel price issue is a real wake up call. Worrying about why prices in India are high when globally they have started to fall is taking an extremely short-sighted view of the situation, completely ignoring the elephant in the room. The larger issue is that, at a time when globally efforts are being made to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, we have had a huge surge in the number of vehicles and fuel usage in recent years. And no signs of letting up either! And almost no efforts are being made to get renewable energy-based transport solutions. —
