Student who falsely claimed kidnap, rape dies by suicide

A 19-year-old BPharma student who allegedly misled the Rachakonda police by claiming that she had been kidnapped and gang-raped, died by suicide at her home in Ghatkesar on Wednesday.

On February 10, she had accused an autoricksh­aw driver of kidnap and rape. Police after investigat­ions, which took three days and into which 152 personnel were drafted, revealed that she wanted to leave home due to family problems and had cooked up the story and had framed the driver due to previous enmity.

She had been admitted to hospital for mandatory checks. Following her discharge from hospital on February 13, the Rachakonda police said that she would be booked for providing false evidence.

Meanwhile, the girl slipped into depression and was hospitalis­ed at Gandhi Hospital on Tuesday. She was discharged and taken home by her parents on Tuesday evening where she attempted suicide. “She was rushed to hospital by her parents, where the duty doctors declared her brought dead,” said the police.

The Ghatkesar police said that they have booked a case of suspicious death and shifted the body for the post-mortem examinatio­n (PME). “Based on the PME report and other evidence, the case will be further investigat­ed and finalised,” the police said.

Cyberabad police arrested a gang of four persons who posed as police and government officials to cheat a man of `11 crore. The police officials seized gold and silver ornaments worth `50 lakh, seven mobile phones, five cars and `2 lakh from the accused.Police identified the main accused as Vijay Kumar Reddy, who posed as a provisiona­lly selected IPS officer. He died by suicide at his parent's residence on February 5, when their scam was getting exposed.

The other accused were Smriti Simha who posed as chairperso­n of the Internatio­nal Human Rights Commission for entire south India, Raghava Reddy, who posed as Central Zone DCP, apart from Ranadhir Reddy, Ramakrishn­a Reddy, Abhilash Reddy and A. Pravalika. The last two are absconding.

The arrests were made following a complaint from P. Veera Reddy, a resident of Bachupally. Vijay Kumar Reddy and Smriti Simha pretented to be rich couple and used concocted stories to cheat the complainan­t of `11 crore, Cyberabad police commission­er V.C. Sajjanar said.

According to police Vijay Reddy was a computer programme installer, and Smriti Simha was separated from her husband and running a supermarke­t in the Borabanda.
