SENA MIN MAY FACE ACTION FOR DEFYING COVID NORMS

Maharashtr­a forest minister Sanjay Rathod might find himself in trouble as his party Shiv Sena has made it clear that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will not spare anyone and law will take its course in connection the gathering of huge crowd outside a temple in Washim district in violation of Covid norms.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said, “The Chief Minister is very strict when it comes to laws and rules. He will not spare even if it means somebody is ours. The government will not spare. The law will definitely take its course if anyone has committed a mistake.”

On Tuesday, thousands of supporters of Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Rathod gathered near Pohradevi Temple in Washim district when minister visited the shrine. It was his first public appearance after his name was linked to the death of a 22-year old Pooja Chavan in Pune. He, however, had denied the allegation­s against him.

Thackeray on Sunday announced that in view of the rising Covid cases, religious, social and political gatherings will be prohibited in the state from Monday.

London, Feb. 24: Wanted diamond merchant Nirav Modi, who remains behind bars in a London prison as he contests his extraditio­n to India on charges of fraud and money laundering in the estimated USD 2-billion Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam case, will find out the UK court's ruling in the nearly two-year-long legal battle on Thursday.

The 49-year-old is expected to appear via videolink from Wandsworth Prison in southwest London at Westminste­r Magistrate­s' Court, where District Judge Samuel Goozee is set to hand down his judgment on whether the jeweller has a case to answer before the Indian courts.

The potential owners of privatised public sector banks must be financiall­y strong to ensure that the lenders have robust risk buffers, the RBI governor said. While the government has the final say in deciding the buyers, from the regulator’s perspectiv­e, the bidders should meet RBI’s fit and proper criteria and have enough financial strength to capitalise the banks significan­tly, governor Shaktikant­a Das said in an interview.
