CONGRESS’ G-23 CRISIS WORSENS

- DC CORRESPONDENT

The Congress high command finds itself pushed in a corner after the public spat between the G-23 leaders and party loyalists.

Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma who is part of the G-23 on Monday slammed the party’s tie-up with ISF in West Bengal, saying it was against the “Gandhian and Nehruvian secularism” and the party cannot be selective in fighting the “communalists”.

Hitting back, the West Bengal Congress chief and Lok Sabha MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Monday posted a series of tweets titled “Know Your Facts, Anand Sharma ji”. “Would urge a select group of distinguished Congressmen to rise above always seeking personal comfort spots and stop wasting time singing praises of PM,” he said. Interestingly the issue is not limited to a small alliance partner. The change seekers within the party have been complaining of lack of transparency within the party. The high command has done virtually nothing to assuage such a feeling. There was meeting that was called by the Congress president Sonia Gandhi in December last year post that the high command has done nothing.

The party loyalists feel that these leaders should raise their voices in party forums and not go public like the Jammu outing. But the change seekers say that there is not a single forum left in the party where they can air their grievances.

Refuting the second charge that why aren’t the G-23 campaigning in the poll bound states one of the leader said, “we are not star campaigners nobody wants us to campaign so how can we campaign.”
