Voltage woes in several areas

Power problems affect residential colonies as summer begins

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, MARCH 3

THE ELECTRICITY department said these areas have growth of vegetation near the transformers. Wires get damaged.

Voltage fluctuations in electricity supply to several areas of Yapral, Kapra and ECIL have begun irritating the residents at the start of the Summer.

The power problems are affecting residential colonies where the load on the transformer increases as the heat starts rising from around 10 am. Voltage fluctuations damage appliances like airconditioners, washing machines, microwave and television sets.

Padma Reddy, home maker near Netajinagar Crossroads at Kapra, said: “Our microwave and TV circuits collapsed due to these fluctuations. The additional converter that we had for television was also affected.”

With residential complexes and commercial establishments remaining mixed, supply is becoming a challenge. Many residential colonies have sent messages to families to restrict the use of air-conditioners. Satish Kumar, resident at Yapral, said, “We are a gated community and facing fluctuations and power tripping since the last week of February. For the time-being, a request has been sent out to members to restrict the use of ACs.”

The electricity department said these areas have growth of vegetation near the transformers. Wires get damaged. There is also vegetation on the main wires. Birds damage some of the circuits. Wind movement is another reason for the wear and tear.

The department stated that when complaints were received they would be resolved quickly.
