TAKES STATE PERMITS MEET FOR REDDY COMMUNITY

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, MARCH 4

The state government on Thursday informed the Telangana High Court that the police had given permission to some associations belonging to the Reddy community to hold their meeting at Pet Basheerbad of Medchal district on March 7.

In a petition, the Reddy Sanghala Ikya Vedika complained of a delay in the police sanctioning permission and sought the court’s intervention. Government pleader for the home department informed the court that permission had been accorded.

The NGO Common Cause on Thursday moved the Supreme Court challenging the appointment of Praveen Sinha, a Gujarat cadre IPS officer, as an interim Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Sinha is already working in the investigating agency as Additional Director – a number two position in the organizational hierarchy.

The office of the CBI Director fell vacant upon the retirement of Rishi Kumar Shukla on February 2.

Seeking an urgent direction to the Centre to complete the process of selection of a regular CBI Director, the NGO Common Cause has contended that the appointment of interim Director was contrary to the provision of the bypassing the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act under which the CBI functions,

The NGO has challenged the government’s February 3 decision to appoint Praveen Sinha as interim Director till the appointment of a new Director or until further orders,

In its petition, the NGO says that the unwillingness of the government to institute a transparent and accountable system impairs the right of the people since the CBI is currently probing cases involving rampant corruption in high places in the country.
