FIVE LEG BEFORE IN ENGLAND’S 1ST INNINGS

Five batsmen were dismissed leg before wicket in England’s first innings on the opening day of the fourth and final Test match against India at Ahmedabad on Thursday (March 4).

It was fifth instance in India and seventh overall when five England batsmen were dismissed in this manner in an innings against India.

Shubman Gill’s duck was his second in 13th innings of seventh Test match.

England scored 205 runs in 75.5 overs without a duck in their first innings. They managed to creep past 200 for the first time in six innings.

The highest partnershi­p of the innings was 48 runs for the fourth wicket between Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow. Since piling up 578 in benign conditions at the outset of the series in Chennai, England’s batsmen have yet to produce another fifty stand.
