Revise ‘outdated’ HMDA master plan, says Kishan
MoS writes to KCR; says farmers interests not considered
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G. Kishan Reddy on Thursday wrote a letter to Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on the need to review the HMDA master plan to make it relevant to the current requirements.
He said many complaints had come to his notice that the development plans in HMDA were not being implemented as expected by the government.
The Union Minister opined that the scope was large and people were suffering due to a lack of proper understanding at the field-level or coordination with the concerned local bodies.

He noticed that the farmers have to wait for a long time to convert their lands to other zones like residential, industrial and commercial. He said that this is creating an opportunity for illegal constructions.
He recalled that after the formation of Telangana, the government had repeatedly said that it would review the HMDA master plan and formulate a comprehensive master plan in favour of the farmers and stated that this was not even a costly affair. He said there was a need to make changes keeping in mind the best interests of farmers and poor and middle class people.
Reddy expressed the opinion that farmers felt that it would be beneficial to convert all lands in the Outer Ring Road area into residential and zonal areas except lands related to environmental protection. He mentioned that there was a need to form a joint operation involving local organisations in order to curb illegal constructions.

The Union minister stressed the need to complete service roads in Rajendranagar, Shamshabad, Narsinghi, Patan Cheru, Shambipur and other places. He demanded immediate repairs to the main ring road and service roads. He said that planting trees and removing shrubs on ORR dividers should be done in a proper manner.
