COURTS IN MAHA, GOA TO WORK 2.5 HRS A DAY

Due to surge in Covid-19 cases in the state all subordinat­e courts in Maharashtr­a will function in one shift of 2.5 hours and would take up only urgent matters till May 7.

Considerin­g the spike in Covid-19 cases in the state the Administra­tive Committee, comprising Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court and other judges decided how the courts in Maharashtr­a, Goa and in Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu will function to break the chain of Covid-19.

As per new circular all courts should function in one shift and take up remand, bail and urgent criminal and civil matters from April 19 with judicial working hours of twoand-half hours. It has also been ordered that all court will remain closed on all Saturdays and would work as holiday court for urgent matters. Even canteens and bar rooms within the court premises have also been directed to remain closed.

In the meantime the Bombay High Court will also continue hearing matters virtually till May 7.

Furthermor­e, division benches will sit only two days a week i.e. Tuesday and Thursday. Single judges will sit thrice a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The benches will work for four hours everyday.
