Pressure from political leaders adding to woes of Covid docs

- PILLALAMARRI SRINIVAS I DC

Political leaders of every hue are indirectly adding to the anxiety of Covid patients, who are close to them and are undergoing treatment at isolation centres in government and private hospitals.

The leaders are frequently enquiring about the health condition of their patients and putting doctors under immense pressure while seeking quality good treatment. It is said that many doctors are unable to concentrate on patients, whose condition was critical while attending to politician-sponsored patients whose condition was out of danger.

In another sense, political leaders are exploiting the services of doctors, especially those in government hospitals at a time when their services are required for poor patients in old Adilabad district.

The political leaders always insist that doctors provide special treatment to their patients. It is said that many times, doctors are unable to do their job as they have to attend to phone calls from political leaders because of which some critical cases are missing out on the much-required attention.

Many doctors say that it is high time for politicians to stay away from the treatment process. Instead, they should try to mobilise doctors from Indian Medical Association (IMA) to attend to Covid patients. Even private doctors can extend their services for a few hours in a week, provided the district administration is willing to utilise their services.

It is a fact that the chances of risk or more for doctors treating Covid patients in government isolation centres as they get exposed more because of a shortage of doctors.

Relatives of some Covid patients are mounting pressure on political leaders to enquire about the health condition of the patients in government Covid isolation centres at Nirmal, Mancherial and Adilabad districts.
