CHINA FUMES AFTER U.S. GREETS TIBET’S NEW PRESIDENT

In a move that is bound to anger China, the United States on Saturday congratula­ted Penpa Tsering who has been elected as the new President of the Central Tibetan Administra­tion (CTA)—popularly known as the Tibetan Government-in-Exile— based at Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh. Mr. Tsering will succeed the current CTA President Lobsang Sangay.

US State Department Spokespers­on Ned Price tweeted, “The US Tsering on his election as the next CTA ‘Sikyong’ (President in the Tibetan language). WQe look forward to working with him and the CTA to support the global Tibetan Diaspora.”
