Telangana Congress paid rich tributes to former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 30th death anniversary on Friday.
TPCC chief and Nalgonda MP, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, and several leaders, offered floral tributes and remembered him as a leader who fought for communal harmony in the country.
Participating in a programme at Huzurnagar, Reddy said that the contributions of Rajiv Gandhi in strengthening local bodies, pioneering computer and IT sectors in India and lowering of voting age would be remembered forever.
He visited the government hospital and distributed food, fruits and medicine kits to patients, their families and hospital staff and appreciated the selfless service of doctors, nurses, medical and sanitation staff and ambulance drivers during the Covid-19 crisis.
Working president and MP A. Revanth Reddy garlanded the statue of Rajiv Gandhi at Somajiguda. He hailed Rajiv Gandhi as the architect of modern India by promoting IT and eventually sacrificed his life for the country.
Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy donated 25 oxygen cylinders and N-95 masks to AIIMS Bibinagar and Bhongir area hospital on the occasion.
He also contributed ` one crore from his MPLAD funds to Bhongir government hospital for purchasing ambulances. The Congress party conducted a remembrance programme at the Rajiv Gandhi statue in Somajiguda under the leadership of former MP, V. Hanumantha Rao. TPCC general secretary Vinod Reddy distributed food and masks to people at Himayatnagar during a programme organised by Telangana Seva Dal.
