HCA match: Now, it’s Shivlal vs Azhar
There seems to be no end to the tug-of-war at the Hyderabad Cricket Association top. A day after president Mohammed Azharuddin questioned the appointment of Suneel Kante as CEO, secretary R. Vijayanand has announced former Test player, HCA secretary and BCCI interim president N. Shivlal Yadav as HCA’s representative for the national cricket body’s Special General Meeting scheduled for May 29.
On the other hand, Azharuddin has positioned himself as HCA’s nominee, setting up another showdown ahead of the BCCI meet to discuss upcoming cricket season in India, including the T20 World Cup scheduled in OctoberNovember.
Thankfully, it’s a virtual meet, which avoids the otherwise embarrassing prospect of both turning up at the venue and presenting a poor picture.
“This has been done in accordance with the resolution passed at the last AGM under Rule No. 8 (j) of the HCA Constitution where Shivlal Yadav’s name as HCA representative was unanimously approved,” Vijayanand said.
That decision was taken at last month’s AGM which continued after the president ended it abruptly (after a ruckus) and walked out with his supporters without completing the agenda.
“We have sent an email to the BCCI informing the decision and requesting them to send the virtual password to Shivlal Yadav to enable him to attend the virtual SGM,” Vijayanand added.
Later, Azhar’s group put out a note saying the president was appointed HCA’s representative at BCCI meets in a single point
The two former Test players are locked in a tussle to represent the Hyderabad Cricket Association at the BCCI’s Special General Meeting scheduled to be held on May 29.
agenda at the Emergency Special General Body Meeting held on October 3, 2019, six days after current members of the Apex Council won the elections by huge margins for a three-year term.
“Mr Purushotham Agarwal, representing Vijay Anand Cricket Club, proposed the name of president Mohammed Azharuddin to represent the Hyderabad Cricket Association in all the meetings of the Board of Control for Cricket in India or similar organisations. Mr Vikram Mansingh, representing Roshanara Cricket Club, seconded the name. The house then unanimously passed the resolution,” the minutes read.
Meanwhile, the Secretary and other members of the Apex Council sought to clarify questions raised by Azhar on the procedure followed in the appointment of the CEO. “There has been due process followed in the appointment of the CEO in compliance with the HCA Constitution with full transparency. Mr Suneel Kante was among the three candidates shortlisted and his candidature was fully accepted and approved by a majority of Apex Council members. Subsequently, his name was proposed for the role of CEO in the AGM and was approved. Mr Kante has extensive experience working with highly reputed global organisations in leadership positions,” they stated.
