Gated communities seek early Covid vaccination

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, MAY 28

With vaccination of highrisk groups started in the state, residents of gated communities, housing colonies, apartments and members of different religious groups have approached their corporators and elected representatives for facilitating early vaccination.

Requests are being sent through social media and personal calls asking corporators, party leaders and social workers to arrange for vaccination drives in community halls, schools and recreation centres in gated communities.

S.B. Rao in Alwal said, “There are many new colonies and gated communities which have come up in the region. Queuing at public health centres is not safe as too many people will gather there. We have amenities where centres can be created. We want the government to help us in creating these make-shift facilities for a day so that maximum numbers can get vaccinated.”

There are many volunteers who are approaching public health centres and facilitating vaccination to the targeted groups of senior citizens, people with comorbid conditions and others in high-risk groups. These volunteers in the periphery of gated communities are booking slots and also arranging transport for those who are dependent.

To make vaccines available for more beneficiaries, many opine that community halls will help to serve a large number of people.

Mr Mohammed Kasim in Trimulgherry said, “We have two large marriage halls in our area. If permissions are granted, we can utilise this open space and get a huge number of people vaccinated for Covid-19.”
