Govt working to tackle third wave

- DC CORERESPONDENT

THE MINISTRY has directed all central para-military forces under its administrative control to start making an inventory and stock of all essential items which are required during the Corona pandemic.

Even as the lethal second wave of Corona is showing a downward trend across the country, the home ministry is clearly in no mood to take any chances. It has infact, started forward planning for the anticipated third wave now.

The ministry has directed all central para-military forces under its administrative control to start making an inventory and stock of all essential items which are required during the Corona pandemic. Largely four main items have been shortlisted like oxygen concentrators, essential medicines and vaccine, oxygen cylinders and beds which will be kept ready by para-military forces for future use.

Sources said a massive exercise has been initiated by the forces of MHA’s directions under which important centres are being identified all across the country with at least two centres in each state. These centres will have large makeshift warehouses where the paramilitary forces will keep “adequate stock of Covid related essential items.”

Possibility of setting up temporary oxygen generating units at these centres is also being examined by technical experts.

“The main lesson we learnt from the second wave was the massive shortage of essential items as the rush of patients increased substantially. So these centres, which will be stocked with all essential medicines and equipments, will be set up at strategic locations in each state so that even at a short notice the forces can rush relief equipments and medicines anywhere in the state,” a senior MHA official remarked.

The para-miltary staff is being special trained to set up immediate temporary Covid health hospitals even at a very short notice. The home ministry is working as a nodal agency for all Covid related relief and rescue measures and other logistics and strategic operations.

The Centre is in no mood to take any chances and is making advance arrangements for the anticipated third wave which is likely to strike sometime around September according to the feedback received by home ministry from various experts, officials added.
