Livin’ it up ‘Friends’ style

FOLLOWING FRIENDS: THE REUNION EPISODE, WE SPEAK WITH FANS TO UNDERSTAND THEIR LOVE FOR THE ERSTWHILE SERIES

- TWINKLE GURNANI

The iconic sitcom Friends had kept a whole generation of TV viewers glued to their sets, watching and partaking the adorable antiques and eccentricities of the six friends living in Manhattan, across their coffee hour breaks and banters at the ‘Central Perk’, their emotional and yet somehow inexplicably funny life problems, etc. Not surprisingly, despite the flak the series got much after for its notso-diverse casts and fat, lesbian and gay-shaming sequences, among other things, the characters have stayed back with many, some who claim the series even helped them through depression.

Ten seasons after it began in September 1994, the widely loved series ended after its last episode of the finale tenth season aired on 6 May 2004. Fans and followers of the series were naturally excited on knowing that the series’ makers had finally ‘given in’ to their demands of ‘bringing back the series’. Although not getting back to making the show again, on 27th May 2021 — 17 years after the series ended — the makers released a reunion special called Friends: The Reunion (also know it as The One Where They Get Back Together). Almost expectedly, the reunion episode had diehard fans and followers wiping a tear and laughing all at once in nostalgia.

We asked our readers to share their thoughts on the show and what they considered made it such a hit that the makers actually considered and made a reunion episode.
