MUST BE MENTALLY TOUGH

- SHWETA AVASTHI, actress (of Malli Malli Chusa fame)

The pandemic has had both positive and negative impacts on the film industry. The situation enabled the rise of content-driven films, with the audience not too bothered about the film having a big star cast or a big production house; their choice is now purely driven by good content.

However, the pandemic has further emphasized certain problems in the industry. For one, unlike those in other professions who’re given insurance, Covid-care plans and incentives even for non-working days during the pandemic, people in the film industry don’t belong to any organisation that takes care of their needs. So the cast and crew of the film industry have no one to turn to for help.

The release of my upcoming films has been delayed. And while I’m earning through social media, a lot of brands aren’t willing to hire artists for advertisements due to transportation problems. But while I’m struggling, I am aware that people across various fields are struggling too.

“The pandemic has emphasized certain problems in the industry. There is no insurance plan — like Covid-care. The cast and crew have no one to turn to for help.”
