POLICE REACH OUT TO MAOISTS OVER REHAB
Telangana police are trying every trick in the book to persuade extremists who have gone underground to shed violence and join the mainstream of society. As part of this, officials are also approaching families of Maoists and urging them to counsel those who had strayed into extremism to return.
Earlier, police appealed to Maoists, who were infected with Covid-19 to surrender so that they could get better medical facilities. It is yielding some fruitful results as quite a few Maoists have surrendered.
The Covid death of Telangana state committee secretary Haribushan alias Yapa Narayana has created panic in the cadre, a development which police is using to persuade extremists to join the mainstream.
On Saturday, DCP of Malkajgiri, Rakshitha K. Murthy visited the families of both Alwal Chandrahas and Pallepati Radha.
Speaking on the occasion Murthy said, “Nothing can be gained through violence. Leave the forest and join public life. We will provide all care and medical treatment in case of any ailments. Do not lose lives unnecessarily in the pandemic period. Rehabilitation will be provided on surrender."
On June 26 Rama-gundam police commissioner V. Satyanarayana visited the residence of Mallojula Venugopal Rao, Maoist central committee member, and met his mother Madhuramma. After enquiring about her health and well-being, he urged her to appeal to Venugopal Rao to give up arms and join the mainstream.
Police officials visited families of Maoist central committee members Kankanala Raji Reddy and Mula Devender Reddy apart from others, requesting them to release a statement urging their children to quit the party and start life afresh.
