Hyderabad cricket season from July 7

● The local leagues will start on July 7 with the three-day games. A week later, the two-dayers will begin and by the end of the month, the one-day matches will kickstart as well.

The local cricket season will start on July 7, Hyderabad cricket legend M. L. Jaisimha’s death anniversar­y, amidst Covid precaution­s and protocols.

This was decided in Sunday’s Apex Council meeting which was chaired by Hyderabad Cricket Associatio­n’s interim president John Manoj. “The local leagues will start on July 7 with the three-day games. A week later, the two-dayers will begin and by the end of the month, the one-day matches will kickstart as well,” John said.

Strict Covid measures will be in place. “The first dose of vaccine is compulsory for all cricketers. In fact, tomorrow and day after, we are organising a free vaccinatio­n camp for players, coaches, support staff, staff and employees of HCA and other officials who will be involved in the upcoming 2021-22 season, along with their families,” John explained.

“The DM & HO, Medchal will be facilitati­ng the free vaccinatio­n camp at the Rajiv Gandhi Internatio­nal Cricket Stadium in Uppal and at Wesley College, Secunderab­ad, on Monday and Tuesday (June 28 and 29) from 9 am to 4 pm,” secretary R. Vijayanand said in a press release earlier.

Next up on the agenda is a roadmap to provide affiliatio­n to the newly carved out districts in Telangana. “A Special General Meeting (SGM) has been called on July 18 to discuss and debate affiliatio­n for the districts,” John said.

It was also decided at the Apex Council meeting to increase the umpires’ fees by 10 per cent as also to provide medical insurance to the tune of `3 lakh per annum for the families of club secretarie­s.
