Ayushmann needs action
The actor is teaming up with filmmaker Anubhav Sinha for an action movie, Anek
‘People have already been exposed to brilliant content from across the world. So, for them to step out to a theatre, they will do so only
to watch brilliant films. Let’s all aim to provide the
audience with that and successfully restart our
industry and the exhibition sector’
It has been two years since the Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer Article 15 hit the screens. Ayushmann’s experience of working with the film’s maker Anubhav Sinha has made him want to do more films with the filmmaker. The actor, who had turned around an exceptional performance in the film, spoke about what he thought would be the driving force that brings people back to theatres once the pandemic is over.
“Article 15 is a special film, and I can’t thank Anubhav Sinha sir for giving me one of the most cherished films. It was an eye-opening film for me and helped me see things from a different lens. We will need films like Article 15, with its superlative content, to pull people back to theatres,” he asserts. The actor believes that audiences must be given good options to ensure they flock back into the theatres after the pandemic abates, stressing on the need for what is ‘disruptive’ content — films that can break the clutter.
“Cinema will provide them with that option but we will have to produce the best content that we have ever produced. People will want to be entertained with films that celebrate new ideas,” he adds. According to the actor, he firmly believes that the pandemic and lockdowns have made us more opinionated than before.
“People would only want to invest time and energy on things that are unique and different, they’d want to have community experiences that are worthwhile,” he adds.
A NEW LEAP
Now, Ayushmann will make his entry into the action genre with another of Anubhav Sinha’s creations — the film Anek. “It is the biggest film of my career in terms of scale and the director Anubhav wants to give audiences a huge big screen experience with his vision,” says Ayushmann, adding about his new passion for action.
“Stefan Richter, the action director of Don and The Hitman’s Bodyguard comes in with a wealth of knowledge and has been an architect for big-scale action movies around the world. With his craft, Anek’s action sequences will match global standards and give audiences a thrilling visual experience. Anubhav sir and Stefan are making me do something that is extremely new for me. As an artiste, I relish doing different things and constantly explore myself. Anek is taking me on a new journey that I’m really enjoying.”
Despite Anek and its assumed scale, to Ayushmann, the scale of films will be immaterial because content will take precedence in a whole new world.
