Battered by heavy rain, main roads lie in ruins, unattended
Recent rains have caused lesser damage than last year, claim civic bodies
Incessant rains for the past few days damaged roads across the twin cities, making Monday a tough day for road users. Traffic moved at snail’s pace due to innumerable potholes and puddles and motorists had to spend longer time to reach their destinations.
As most of the blacktopped roads (BT) have been badly damaged due to rains, the traffic police had a herculean task clearing the roads and helping vehicles move faster.
Roads from Bowenpally to Sikh Village, Uppal to Boduppal, Vijaynagar Colony, Towlichowki, Bandlaguda, Tukkuguda, Lal Darwaza, Pirzadiguda and many part of the city witnessed traffic
bottlenecks due to potholes.
The civic authorities,
who have been filling potholes on BT roads, said compared to the last year’s
rains, which damaged most of the roads badly, the recent rains did not cause much damage.
Sajjad Baig, a resident of Vidyanagar and an IT professional, said, “The day’s traffic was horrible, as I travelled to Madhapur and Gachibowli and returned home.”
Vinay Kumar, an electrician by profession and a resident of Tolichowki, said, “I had to attend four works of which I could attend only two, because of the slow-moving traffic. When riding a bike in these conditions, we get tired even though there is not too much dust on the road.”
M. Devanand, chief engineer, maintenance, GHMC, said, “During the rains, BT roads are badly damaged. The area where water is stagnant for some time gets damaged, leading to pothole. Our staff is constantly repairing all roads.”
